Biography

British soprano Callie Gaston recently undertook a European tour with Musical Rumpus, Spitalfields Music’s award-winning series of interactive operas for young children. Taking the leading role of Mica in an original production entitled Fogonogo, Callie performed with Musical Rumpus at the Philharmonie Luxembourg, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg and the GrowOp! Festival in Denmark as well as over 30 London tour dates.

In 2020/21 Callie was chosen to work with the International Opera Academy in Gent and appeared at Bijloke Concertzaal singing Micaëla in Le tragédie de Carmen, directed by Stefan Degaand and conducted by Michiel Delanghe. She made her role debut of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, and performed Green 1 in Private View, a contemporary opera by Annelies Van Parys. 

Callie is a principal artist with Opera Holloway, most recently performing Mimi in La Bohème, in a 15-date tour of the UK.  Previously Callie also starred in Triptych, an experimental, multi-media opera from London-based arts company Opera Erratica, nominated Critics’ Choice in The Times. 

Callie Gaston’s early opera engagements include Giulietta I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Adina L’elisir d’amore, La Suora Infermiera in Suor Angelica, Fiordiligi Cosí Fan Tutte,  Norina in Don Pasquale, Giulia in La Scala di Seta, Euridice Orpheé et Euridice, Rita Rita, Nora Riders to the Sea, Chiteria Don Chisciotte, Rosalinde Die Fledermaus, Lucy The Telephone, Gretel Hansel and Gretel and  Belinda Dido and Aeneas. 

As a recitalist, Callie has given recent performances at London venues including 22 Mansfield Street, Pushkin House and Leighton House. She also delivers regular performance lectures for Opera Prelude in Henley-on-Thames and at London’s Cadogan Hall.

Callie Gaston completed her Masters degree at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, having received a First Class Honours degree in Music and Drama at Royal Holloway, University of London. She is the proud recipient of the Opera Prelude Song Prize and winner of the Una Clarke Young Artist Award.
